- 1.5 miles of Tarryall Creek at 8,600 feet elevation; flows range from 15 to 40 cfs during summer.
- Fees:
- $60.00 per angler; maximum of 3 anglers per day. No refunds once payments are made.
- Check-in Procedure:
- ALL anglers must obtain a daily parking pass from the Ute Trail Store before proceeding to this property! Ute Trail Store is located 5 miles NW (upstream) from Upper Allen Creek Ranch on County Road 77.
This property is patrolled and all vehicles without a parking pass are reported immediately to the Park County Sheriff.
- Description:
- Upper Allen Creek Ranch is a scenic property with complex habitat and healthy populations of trout in the 10 to 25 inch range. This 1.5-mile section of Tarryall Creek has a steeper gradient than Lazy River Ranch (upstream) or the Lower Allen Creek lease (downstream), with boulder-strewn riffles and runs, interspersed with large pools. Extensive channel restoration work in 2005 further increased the fish holding capacity over much of this property. Every pocket and run should be worked thoroughly, as feeding browns and rainbows often hold in unexpected places. According to angler reports, this property presents the most technical fly fishing of our seven leases, but it has also produced the most (>100) fish in a single day.
- Hazards:
- Lightning is a real hazard and no shelter or restrooms exist on the property. Fast riffles, slick rocks and deep pools can be dangerous, especially during periods of high water. Sloughs and beaver slides (some quite deep) may exist anywhere the channel has been dammed by beavers. Livestock range freely on this property during summer.
- Facilities:
- There are no sanitary facilities on this property. The nearest public restrooms are located at Twin Eagles Trailhead (downstream) on County Road 77. Other services are available in Lake George. Please plan accordingly on the day of your arrival.
